Postdoctoral Fellowship in Synthetic Biology–Regenerative Medicine

We are seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow for a highly multidisciplinary, Medicine by Design funded initiative, to establish a 'Centre for the Design of Novel Human Tissues' as a synthetic biology–regenerative medicine hub. This postdoc will play a pivotal role by developing a synthetic biology module toolkit that is compatible with human iPSCs and derived tissues. For the right person, there will also be opportunity to take a leadership role in establishing and shaping the new Centre. The position will be co-supervised by Dr Michael Garton (U of T), Dr Michael Laflamme (UHN), Dr Christina Nostro (UHN), Dr Yun Li (Sickkids), Dr Shinchiro Ogawa (UHN) and Dr Stephanie Protze (UHN). This initiative is also receiving strategic advice from Dr Martin Fussenegger at ETH, Dr Ron Weiss at MIT and Dr Bruce Conklin at Gladstone.

Scope of responsibilities:

Requirements: suitable candidates will hold a degree in natural sciences, preferably in biotechnology, biochemistry, biophysics, molecular genetics, biology, chemistry, physics or in an engineering science. Candidates should also hold a PhD in a related field (received within the last five years) and have a strong publication record. Experience in standard cell and molecular biology techniques is essential. Experience in any (or all) of the following will be preferred: gene editing, gene assembly, high-throughput screens, flow cytometry/FACS, deep sequencing analysis, and stem cell culturing and differentiation. Experience in coding, computational protein and/or gene circuit design will be advantageous, as will any experience working with rodent models.

Starting Date: The position is available immediately. It will initially be for two years with the possibility for extension. Review of applications will continue until the position is filled.
